Prepare with cover crops from Curtis and Curtis

Quality cover crops are a great way to strengthen your land between planting seasons to produce better growth. Plus, they’re a great, low-maintenance way to ensure you’re properly caring for your garden throughout the fall and winter. Planting cover crops on exposed soil offers protection from unwanted weeds, harsh winds, freezing temperatures, and precipitation.

Rotation crops also build soil health and penetrate the earth with the essential nutrients and minerals that it would otherwise go without. These benefits not only protect your garden during the colder seasons but work to equip your soil for spring and summer planting. These benefits work together to help you to prepare faster and more efficiently for the upcoming growing season.

Transition into spring planting

Depending on your region, your cover crop will either grow until the cold weather kills it or survive and continue growing until removed. Expired or living, do not remove or till your cover crop before 3 to 6 weeks before you intend to begin spring planting. To remove, you can either pull it up by hand or cut it down with a lawnmower. The remains can be composted to return balanced nutrients into your garden.
